Welcome to what I’m calling At Least It’s Not March, an April that will probably feel like a relief simply because it’s not the most challenging month of 2025. We’ve officially survived that period, but we can’t go back to sleep, especially not after everything we’ve seen.

If April/comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers and it is also the cruelest month, what is the first April of this age of American fascism going to feel like?

April could easily fool us into complacency because we’re at the stage of fascism where dark images are coming at us so hard and fast that many of us would sooner turn away than face that we’re in the fight of our lives. These images, by design, become part of the fabric of our online lives and then our flesh and blood lives, so that eventually, we’re inured to them. That’s what they want, to wear us down, to weaken us, to force us to give up and give in.

In their takeover plan, this is not just because we assume there is nothing we can do, but also because their imagery infects our consciousness and fuses with our inner lives so that we no longer feel like autonomous humans with desires. If they exhaust us and deplete us of hope, then maybe we won’t fight when they come to collect us to turn our bodies into human biofuel to make Curtis Yarvin’s sick fever dreams come true.

We’re seeing people in powerful positions, some of the wealthiest and most privileged, capitulate to tyranny to protect their fortunes (Hello, law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and fuck you very much for sullying my good name). These folks didn’t get the DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE memo.

Yet, millions of us are fighting back, and Aries-fueled fury will erupt on April 5 as the nationwide HANDSOFF! protest movement takes to the streets. People have already been showing up every weekend at Tesla Takedown protests, and this first weekend of April, a mass mobilization will take place. As I write this, Senator Cory Booker is doing a majestic, fiery, spiritual filibuster on the floor of the Senate, speaking truth to power and exposing in detail all the grave harm that the fascists are committing against the American people and the entire world.

Even though Aries season, like Aries humans, tends to impart direct and uncomplicated action-taking in our bodies, this particular one comes with many confusing layers. Not only has Neptune just entered Aries for the first time since the 1870s (last time, it entered Aries the day after the (first?) American Civil War began) but Venus and Mercury remain in Pisces and in retrograde motion early in the month. Mercury will station direct on the 7th, and Venus will follow on the 12th, within an hour of the Full Moon in Libra. There is a New Moon in Taurus two weeks later.

Why is this so significant? Because Venus rules Libra and Taurus, so both of this month’s lunations answer to the goddess of love. Relational themes are LOUD and consuming and intense and overwhelming. As the world collapses, many of us will be looking for solace in the arms of lovers. There is a strong “fucking against dying” feeling in the air this month.

The entire month is rich in Venusian themes, but because Venus will be slow to fully wake up, not returning to Aries until the last day of the month, most of the time we’ll probably opt to simply feel what feels good rather than work for it. To feel it as an urgent demand that must be answered, rather than to probe and explore. Yet this month requires deeper reflection and digging, especially before Venus stations direct and picks up speed. We can eventually get to the part where there is an authentic pleasure that pulls us in and envelops us, rather than a temporary saccharine pleasure-lite that we can be instantly distracted away from by the news cycle.

The other reason this deep dive is necessary is because Black Moon Lilith, symbol of patriarchal undoing, entered Scorpio on March 27, and will be in the sign of deep erotic intimacy for the next nine months. This, as we receive news that women are being jailed for miscarriages and queer people are being put under surveillance like we’re back in the Mccarthy Era. Here’s a bit of what I wrote about Black Moon Lilith in my book, Sex and Your Stars: A Sexologist’s Guide to the Erotic Energy of the Zodiac:

Lilith, in our charts, shows us precisely what we may have repressed because our white supremacist heteropatriarchy tells us it’s disallowed. You can find your courage, ferocity, and sexual confidence in this place by doing some work to unearth it.

To be frank, I LOVE LILITH. I would say without exaggeration that Lilith is one of my top three favorite astrological placements, so forgive me if I wax poetic and effusive in this chapter. She’s my home girl, my bestie, my ride-or- die.

From my astrological perspective, Lilith’s main promise and purpose is to give marginalized bodies access to their desires, and that is why I adore her.

***

What if Lilith’s leave-taking was a form of self-banishment as a rejection of patriarchal values? I believe Lilith, not derived from Adam’s rib, fully had a mind of her own, so she refused to obey. If Lilith was angry because Adam wanted her to be subservient, and she wanted to be on top—both literally and metaphorically, well, I’m angry too. Sh demanded that her desires be recognized, and that’s why I love her so damn much. In another telling of her myth, she is known as the mother of Adam’s demonic progeny after he separated from Eve—these children are known as incubi and succubi.

In Hebrew, Lilith can translate to “night monster,” and the writers of the Torah/Bible and some of their Midrashic interpreters (that is to say, the writers of the early history of patriarchy) certainly made Lilith into a monster simply because she demanded bodily autonomy and pleasure. In the Zohar Leviticus, she was called “a hot fiery female who first cohabitate with man.” Needless to say, that sounds close to the way right-wing politicians describe those of us who believe in equal rights for marginalized bodies, like the right to abortion, birth control, and sex education.

Long live Lilith, and may her time in Scorpio bring our rebellion the fuel it requires to smash the patriarchy, grind it to dust, set it on fire, and drown it in the sea. Righteous rage is such a healthy emotion now.

I’m doing a Handmaid’s Tale rewatch. I tell myself that this is because the final season is imminent, but the truth is that I cope with the worst possible in-real-life scenarios by scaring the shit out of myself. Visiting various dystopian landscapes is one of the things I do with my spare time. I read the book in the early nineties and thus I’ve always believed this moment was possible, one of the reasons I’ve committed myself to the cause of bodily autonomy since I was a teenager and discovered feminism.

One thing about watching this show from the beginning again in 2025, is that in 2017, when it first aired, it was already tough to watch because I knew what Donald Trump merely wanted to do. He was in power, and I openly called him a fascist in public from the start. But now he’s doing it, actively putting his tiny hands into his openly fascist, grossly authoritarian grabbag of horrors and throwing them at us like firebombs to distract us as he lets Elon raid the treasury.

Fascism is dumb as hell, parading its idiot backup singers around to claim that the absurd is true. Fascism relies on simple and savage imagery, putting raw displays of violent subjugation on display, but also on clownish antics and ridiculous-looking people. If clowns are committing crimes, are they really crimes?

During the final week of March, we watched as puppy murderess Kristi Noem stood proudly in front of a Salvadoran jail cell housing shirtless, tattooed Venezuelan men as if they were caged animals, displaying her bad hair extensions, her face bloated with fillers, and her $50,000 Rolex. An image grotesque as it was absurd, marrying reality TV culture to the cruelty that is still and always the point. In that prison, invisible in this image, is Neri Alvarado Borges, a kitchen worker from Dallas who was abducted by ICE because of his autism tattoo dedicated to his autistic younger brother. Missing from this image is the queer makeup artist who was kidnapped by ICE for his tattoo.

Also this past week, we watched a horrifying video of Tufts grad student Rumeysa Ozturk being abducted off the street by ICE because of an op-ed she wrote about the war in Gaza. The men did not identify themselves, they simply cuffed her and took her away. I believe the First Amendment still exists, but the Trump administration is unfazed by it. Marco Rubio went on to not merely defend this terrifying and unconstitutional kidnapping, but to praise it with gusto. A judge has ruled that she can’t be deported, for now, but these are the images that this regime wants us to see.

Then they trotted Pam Bondi out to claim that Signal can’t be hacked, so it was totally fine that Howard Lutnick (the commerce secretary who said people who need social security are “fraudsters”) had his phone with him in the Kremlin, where he was paling around with Vlad. I don’t know if Pam Bondi is as dumb as the person that she was playing on TV, but I’m pretty sure that 9-year-olds know that when a phone is hacked, the hacker can see everything that exists on the screen of your phone: even your Signal chats.

Fascism feeds us its stupidity alongside its violence so that it feels like a sideshow. Why would we take to the streets to dismantle a circus, fascism wants onlookers to ask. We’re not really doing anything bad, we’re not monsters, we’re just entertaining you. Why are you coming for the clowns? The small man bent on revenge because his mother never loved him and his dick doesn’t work: his cruelties are the point, as techno-authoritarians, the real people in power, allow him to play his toddler anger-management games to distract us as they prepare to feast on our flesh. They too, are mostly small men worried that their dicks aren’t big enough or don’t work. Why? Because patriarchy lied to them, too. They don’t even understand what would make a woman genuinely love or desire them, nor do they care. They just want to subjugate us all. The broligarchy will kill every last living woman before a single one of them will go to therapy.

After Mars returns to Leo on the 16th for the first time since early January, we can finally begin to feel a sense of deep embodiment of our rage, initially formless and confusing earlier in the month. Now that rage is lit from within and we’re ready to take the torch in into our hands. With Neptune in Aries and Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, the feeling is, “Well, now you know what you have to do, so go and do it.” Now we remember there are many millions more of us than the techno-autocrats. They may have bunkers, but we have numbers. Now we remember that no matter how much money Elon or any of the billionaires have, we have power.

There is another inflection point on the 26th, when Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius, returning us to the first few days of 2025, when two acts of terrorism, one in Las Vegas and one in New Orleans, gripped the headlines for a few days. Not to say there will be a Reichstag fire event, I can’t predict something like that. But I’m saying this: if things seem to be explosive and out of control and they begin blaming convenient targets, please use your street smarts.

Let’s not let America fall.
