What is Clinical Sexology, anyway?

Sexology is the study of human sexuality, behaviors, and functions, and clinical sexologists use their knowledge to help people understand, heal, and strengthen their relationship to their own body and sexuality, improve their relationships, and have a healthy, thriving sex life that centers pleasure.

I found my way to this work as a writer, and more specifically, as a sex writer and advice columnist with a growing interest in the interdisciplinary field of sexology. I’ve always been obsessed with Masters and Johnson, arguably the most famous pair of sexologists other than Alfred Kinsey. My interest in the field grew and blossomed over the last decade until I pivoted in 2020 and entered an academic, experiential program in clinical sexology/sex coaching, so I could put my passion into practice for clients more formally.

I help clients with a wide variety of sexual concerns, from low desire, erectile issues, mismatched desire (a common complaint for couples), body dysphoria, sexual inhibition, anorgasmia, painful sex, sexual trauma, and desire for enhanced pleasure. I work with clients of diverse backgrounds and welcome queer and trans folks into my practice. I specialize in perimenopausal concerns and think the second half of life, post-menopause, can end up being a woman’s most sexually fulfilling era, certainly not the dead-end that our culture promises. Last fuckable day? PUL-EZE. My practice is trauma-informed and co-active — we will work together to help you realize your sexual goals.

I am also a professional astrologer in private practice for the last twenty years (you can read more about this work here) and the author of the forthcoming SEX AND YOUR STARS: A SEXOLOGIST’S GUIDE TO THE EROTIC ENERGY OF THE ZODIAC (Sounds True, 2024), which will be my 10th book! All clients have the option to add astrological consultation to their sex coaching session(s), and I also offer a one-off signature session called the Sexual Astrology Reading.

Currently all sessions are conducted via Zoom or phone, but I hope to be back in an office environment in the next year or so! I will keep you posted.
